Hyderabad Bada Ganesh 2021

A giant statue of the Hindu deity Ganesh is erected at Khairatabad, Hyderabad during Ganesh Chaturthi to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.

It’s an 11-day celebration, and thousands of people come from other areas of the state and from other parts of India to Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Mela. To commemorate this, the idol is submerged in Hussain Sagar Lake on the eleventh day.

This Ganesh statue was placed in 2013 to commemorate the 59-year anniversary, together with a 4200 kg laddu manufactured in the Andhra Pradesh hamlet of Tapeswaram.

In 2015, the Khairatabad Ganesh laddu weighed a whopping 6000 kg. This laddu, as usual, was cooked by a family member.

How a one-foot Ganesh statue placed up in Hyderabad in 1954 became India’s tallest Ganesh idol

Freedom warrior Shankaraiah built the Khairatabad Ganesh pandal in an effort to bring the people of the region together.

One exits the metro station in Hyderabad’s Khairatabad to find throngs of people anxious to see India’s tallest Ganesha idol.
The Khairatabad Ganesha, at 61 feet, is the highest of all the Ganesh pandals in the city.

It’s Ganesh Chaturthi, and Khairatabad has a Ganesh Pandal. Among the religious fervour

It’s a fascinating storey of how a tiny Ganesh pandal was transformed into a world-famous destination of devotion, despite environmental concerns over the statue’s construction and immersion in Hussain Sagar Lake. To commemorate Ganesh Chaturthi in 1954, his brother had built a little pandal with a one-foot-tall idol, recalls S Sudarshan, head of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav committee. As a former freedom warrior, my brother was certain that such festivities might bring people together. There were a lot of individuals in Khairatabad who came to the pandal since it was more of a gathering place for ex-offenders
than a place of worship for exchanging ideas and opinions. A foot was added every year as time went on, and festivities increased in size, as did the idol. By 2014, the idol had reached a height of 60 feet, and we decided to cease growing it. The idol was 57 feet tall in 2018. The 61-foot statue was created this year after repeated requests from devotees, and we intend to keep it that way for many years to come,” Sudarshan explains.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel are prominently shown on the pandal’s flag, along with other past organisers.

When it comes to Ganesh Chaturthi, Tilakji is responsible. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations were a way to bring people from diverse areas together during the pre-independence era, when public meetings were forbidden by the British. Even religious freedom warriors such as Tilak and Patel actively promoted these processions. As Sudarshan tells it, “this tradition was discontinued after independence but restarted in 1954, when Hyderabad presumably acquired its first Ganesh pandal.”

A new Ganesha avatar appears in Khairatabad every year. From West Bengal and Bihar to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu we brought in 150 employees this year!
create the Dwadashi Aditya Maha Ganpati avatar, with 12 heads and 24 hands, thought to provide favourable weather and showers to the state of California For this year, the organisers estimate at least 5 lakh visitors.

As an example, there is the renowned Laddoo Prasadam

For those who think that Khairatabad’s idols are impressive enough, the city is also known for its 750 kilogramme laddoo prasadam! In 2015, the laddoo weighed 6,000 kg, which attracted visitors from Pakistan.

According to one of the organisers, the gigantic laddoo put at the idol’s feet this year is an offering from a devotee in the town.

Till last year, the Tapeshwaram laddoo was an offering from Andhra Pradesh’s Malli Babu. A lack of transportation and protests from devotees prevented him from attending this year.

There have been particular measures taken to deal with the crowds, including the involvement of the state police.

Over time, the crowds have grown so large that 40 CCTV cameras are now in position to keep an eye on everything.

The original Ganesh pandal, put up by Shankaraiah alm, has remained the same throughout the years, despite its commercialization.
